Chinchilla’s Bookenders Bookclub next meet will be Thursday 5 October – this month we will be discussing the novel “Our souls at night” by Kent Haruf. This is Haruf’s final novel, as he has since passed away from cancer.
Would you have the courage to visit your neighbor and ask him to sleep with you? This is what Addie Moore did one day. Now I can hear you all say, “this sounds like any Mills & Boon novel” – but there is a twist. The couple in question are, politely put – of the older generation. “Eww”, I can hear you groan. “Not granny porn!” No it’s not like that; Addie did only want to sleep beside her gentleman friend. This is the story of their brave adventure to forge a new relationship. Their road is not a smooth one. Just as Romeo and Juliet faced opposition, so do our two friends. It is a gentle and thought provoking read.
P.S. I have seen that Robert Redfern is playing the lead male role in the movie version – now what was I saying about granny porn?
