Combat loss of reading achievement

Experts call it the “summer slide,” where children lose up to two months of reading achievement over the Christmas holidays?

Your local Library has the solution. We have Emergent readers, Beginner readers and Early readers that are high interest and cover lots of topics. Ask your local librarian to advise about other Junior Fiction books that may be of interest such as Frog on a Log in a Bog by Andy Griffiths or go on adventures with Algy. This series are small chapter books with coloured illustrations which are great for those children transitioning from picture books. Why not borrow Algy’s Amazing Adventures in the Arctic or Algy’s Amazing Adventures in the Jungle or Algy’s Amazing Adventures in Space all written by Kaye Umansky.   Other books you may like to try are the Sporty Kids series or the Aussie Nibbles series. There are lots of choices available.

Everyone likes variety over the holidays so why not try watching a story read by a celebrity on Story Box Library or alternatively listen to a book from Borrowbox on your travels.

Have fun over the holidays and we would love to see you and your little readers in the library soon.
