Registration opens at 9am on Monday 4 February!
#STEAMSquad is an after-school program for children aged 7-12, held at Chinchilla, Dalby and Tara Libraries. Each week children participate in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math activities in a fun, hands-on environment. Our aim is to give ALL children the opportunity to experience tomorrow’s skills, today.
Due to popular demand, this year we will have a Junior #STEAMSquad (7-8) and Senior #STEAMSquad (9-12). Children will be divided into groups depending on their age and abilities, allowing staff to target the skills and interests of everyone participating and ensuring a better quality program for all involved. (Please note that children must be the correct age before starting #STEAMSquad for the term.)
As the year progresses, we will be doing lots of new sessions as well as revisiting some tried and tested ones. Some terms we will do a course that builds on each week, other times there will be a collection of stand-alone sessions. Some weeks we will focus on coding or robotics, other times on science experiments or art projects. We know that not everyone enjoys the same things – we recommend speaking with your child and discussing the topics for the term to decide if they are appropriate and of interest, before registering.
During term 1:
Senior #STEAMSquad will be learning to code over 6 weeks, through interacting with the online game CodeCombat.
Junior #STEAMSquad will be conducting a series of science experiments, engineering tasks and art projects, and completing challenges using Sphero robotic balls.
