I love to read, but like so many busy people, I just can’t find the time to curl up with the latest bestseller! Hence, I am a self-confessed audiobook addict…I love them! I spend 90 minutes a day in my car commuting to and from work, so rather than wasting that precious time in my day, I listen to the latest releases and the time just flies as I become absorbed in the world of my favourite characters. I can power through an 18 hour audio book in just a few days…the same book in print form would have taken me months to read, if I managed to finish it at all!
So, what am I reading now? One of my absolute favourite authors is Kate Morton, so it was with great anticipation that I slipped the MP3 CD of ‘The clockmaker’s daughter’ into my car audio player and hit the road.
‘The clockmaker’s daughter’ is a typical Kate Morton tale featuring a rambling old house, Birchwood Manor, as the central charater, and told by multiple voices across time. Beautifully written in the author’s trademark style, Kate Morton knows how to draw in the reader with her complex characters, lyrical turns of phrase and sumptuous descriptions. The book is an epic piece of historical fiction with plenty of twists and turns, and narrated by Joanne Froggatt (of Downton Abbey fame) who reads the novel beautifully.
If you haven’t yet discovered audiobooks, I highly recommend them!
