How do you like to read?

It’s a serious question — how do you like to read?

Audiobooks and Multitasking Bliss

For me, there’s no one answer. Lately, I’ve found audiobooks are my favourite way to enjoy a story (who would’ve thought!). I love curling up on my favourite couch, headphones firmly in place, and grabbing whatever craft project has currently captured my attention. It’s multitasking at its finest — I get to create something with my hands while a great story keeps me entertained.

Best of all, I can sip my favourite brew without interruptions. Wireless technology makes it all possible, and I honestly don’t know what I’d do without BorrowBox or uLibrary. Headphones on also sends a clear signal to my long-suffering husband: no need for updates about the weed invasion in the backyard or the latest cricket triumph as Australia demolishes their Test opponents.

The Joy of Holding a Real Book

When I feel nostalgic for the weight of a ‘proper’ book in my hands and the joy of soaking in a master wordsmith’s work, I return to the same comfy couch. In my dreams, I imagine this spot inside my own personal library — complete with a rolling ladder, of course.

Before I start, I gather snacks and drinks and place them close by. I also warn my husband that I’m off-limits for the next few hours. Unless the house is on fire or one of the kids is in real danger, I expect zero interruptions. Once that’s done, I dive headfirst into the world between the covers. Honestly, this still feels like the best way to experience a truly great story.

Ebooks for Life on the Go

I always make sure to keep an ebook downloaded on my phone. It’s the perfect way to escape the dreaded social media scroll while waiting for appointments.

I admit I flick through the pages often, since I need the font set large enough for my tired old eyes. But that’s the beauty of ebooks — you can adjust the size for comfort, and always have a book within reach.
