Book Week 2022

The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has been celebrating Book Week since 1945. Yep! – the year the second World War ended we first celebrated children’s books, children’s authors and illustrators. In 1946, CBCA gave out their first book award with the aim of promoting quality literature for young Australians. Supporting and encouraging a wide range of Australian writers and illustrators of children’s books and finally, celebrating contributions to Australian children’s literature.

Dalby library is celebrating this wonderful week with two Storytimes open to the public which are being held on Tuesday 23 August and Thursday 25 August 2022. Please book online. All children under five years of age are welcome and they can come dressed as their favourite book character.  Be inventive and make your own costume – it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Some ideas for you to ponder:

Alpacas with Maracas, Macca by Matt Cosgrove | 9781760979249 | Booktopia
Alpacas with Maracas by Matt Cosgrove – a mexican hat and some maracas

Where is The Green Sheep? - 9780143501763 - Dymocks
Where is the Green Sheep by Mem Fox – a T shirt with coloured pillow stuffing.

The Day The Crayons Quit :HarperCollins Australia
The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt – come dressed all in one colour and put a pointy party hat on for the tip of the crayon.

The simple activity of visiting the library is a great activity for children and families, so if you do nothing else during Book Week, make the effort to take your child to the library. They can choose their own books and get excited about reading.

Trevor the Library Dog is almost ready and super excited – are you?!
