Exciting News for Western Downs Families: Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Expands Region-Wide!
On July 4th, the Western Downs community celebrated a fantastic milestone—the official launch of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library across the entire region. This expansion offers a wonderful gift to families and their little ones. While the program has already been warmly embraced in Chinchilla since January 1st, 2025, the exciting update means all babies born from that date onward, living anywhere in Western Downs, can now access this amazing free book program.
What is the Dolly Parton Imagination Library?
Inspired by beloved country music icon Dolly Parton, this literacy initiative encourages a love of reading and learning from a very young age. Each month, children enrolled in the program receive a brand-new, carefully selected book delivered directly to their home—completely free. These age-appropriate books engage young minds, boost vocabulary, and promote early literacy skills.
How Does It Work in Western Downs?

Who can join? Babies born on or after January 1st, 2025, who live within the Western Downs catchment area.

What do they get? One free book every month, delivered right to their door.

How long does it last? Children receive monthly books until they turn five years old or until funding ends.

Moving? If a family relocates to another area with the Imagination Library, their child can continue receiving books without interruption.

A Proud Start in Chinchilla
Chinchilla paved the way earlier this year. Babies born in the community since January 1st already receive monthly books. Thanks to the success and enthusiasm there, Western Downs can now offer the program region-wide, ensuring no child is left behind.
