The Great Library Pumpkin-Off: Dirt, Drama & a Shiny Trophy

Spring didn’t tiptoe in this year — it cannonballed. One minute we were sipping tea under blankets, the next we were melting into the pavement and wondering if pumpkins could grow in lava.Which brings us to the main event: The Great Library Pumpkin-Off is officially ON!

It’s time to dig in, literally. We’re launching The Great Library Pumpkin-Off, a Western Downs community-wide challenge to grow the biggest, most glorious pumpkin from scratch. And not just any pumpkins! These beauties start with free seeds from our Seed Library, ready to sprout into garden legends.

How It Works

  • Step 1: Pick up your free packet of pumpkin seeds from your local library branch.
  • Step 2: Plant them from November 1st. Name them. Nurture them. Read them bedtime stories if you must.
  • Step 3: Share your journey. We live for the triumphs, the gardening fails, the pumpkin that looks suspiciously like a potato. Post your photos and stories on your Facebook page and tag us!
  • Step 4: Final weigh-in at the end of January. The biggest pumpkin wins. The prize? Eternal glory, a shiny trophy, and bragging rights that will last well into next harvest season.

This is serious business. There will be dirt. There will be drama. There will be pumpkins that defy logic.

And we will cheer for every single one.
