What’s stopping you attending Storytime?

We’ve been having lots of fun at Storytime in Chinchilla lately! Have you joined us? If not, why not?

“My child is too noisy and won’t sit still!”

We don’t expect them to! Young children are not developmentally ready to sit still for long periods. That’s why we do lots of singing and moving around during Storytime. Regular attendance at Storytime can help children learn routines and expand their attention span.

“My child is not interested in books.”

Storytime is about more than just books! Talking, singing and playing with your child are just as important as reading together.

“My child is obsessed with dressing up. It’s embarrassing!”

Superheroes, Wiggles, unicorns and dragons are all welcome (and encouraged) at Storytime! Dressing up is a type of symbolic play, which is needed later on when learning how to read and write.

“My baby just eats the books.”

Babies’ sense of touch is still developing, which is why they prefer to experience things with their mouths. Try sharing board books or ‘touch-and-feel’ books, which will stand up to a bit more mouthing and rough treatment.

“My child has a learning/developmental delay or other type of disability.”

We’d love to work with you to ensure Storytime is an enjoyable experience. Please get in touch!

Children with a disability are welcome at Storytime too!

“We’re busy/ my child is asleep/ I work during the day and can’t make it to Storytime”

While we think Storytime is amazing, we understand that life happens and sometimes you just can’t make it to the Library! Try borrowing one of our Storytime at Home kits, or watching local librarians and community members from the Western Downs read stories on Trevor’s Bookshelf. You could also log on to Storybox Library using your Library card, watch Storytime online, or download the free Kindergo App.

More than a million new connections are forming in your child’s brain every second during the first five years of life. Sharing stories, singing, talking and playing with your child from birth builds a foundation for your child’s future development that can last a lifetime! Storytime is a great opportunity to have some fun with your kids and meet other families.

To adhere to current COVID restrictions, bookings are essential.
